Golf: Rory McIlroy missed the cut after ballooning to a six-over-par 78 in the second round of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth yesterday. The title holder frittered away stroke after stroke at the European Tour’s flagship event and his five-over total of 149 meant he missed the cut by a considerable margin. McIlroy is in the middle of an untypically busy schedule of five tournaments in a row that will end with the Irish Open at Royal County Down next week.

Motor Racing: Boston will be added to the IndyCar schedule next season with a street race along the waterfront. Looking for new markets, IndyCar added the Grand Prix of Louisiana in New Orleans this season and now will move into the northeast with the Grand Prix of Boston to be staged on Sept. 4, 2016. While IndyCar continues to add to its schedule in North America, the series no longer stages any international events having dropped races in Brazil and China after races in Australia, Japan and Europe disappeared from the schedule.

Basket, NBA: Golden State Warriors survived a stirring James Harden-inspired fightback to take command of the Western Conference Final with a 99-98 Game Two victory over Houston Rockets. Harden scored 38 points and rallied his team from an eight-point deficit in the final two minutes but all his hard work was undone when he lost the ball as time expired, unable to get a shot away. This season’s MVP runner-up scored 10 of his team’s final 12 points and added 10 rebounds and nine assists but again had to accept second billing to Golden State’s Stephen Curry who finished with 33 points. The Warriors took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Tennis: World number six Milos Raonic has withdrawn from the French Open having failed to recover from a foot injury, the 24-year-old announced. The Canadian missed the Italian Open last week and had hoped to recover in time for the season’s second grand slam on the clay courts of Roland Garros but tomorrow’s first day of the tournament has come too soon.
