Leeds United: Leeds United's new owners have been cleared to start next season in the third division but have been given a 15-point deduction by the Football League, the Yorkshire club said yesterday. The new owners, led by chairman Ken Bates, had been waiting since buying the club last month from administrators KPMG to receive their Football Share from the league, entitling Leeds to start the new season. "The club have appealed against this sanction," Leeds said.

Bojinov: Bulgaria striker Valeri Bojinov has signed for Manchester City on a four-year contract from Fiorentina for an undisclosed fee. The deal is subject to the 21-year-old being granted a work permit, the Premier League club said. The move comes a day after City signed three players - Brazil midfielder Elano Blumer, Croatia defender Vedran Corluka and Spanish fullback Javier Garrido - under the club's new owner Thaksin Shinawatra and new coach Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Bolton: Norway winger Daniel Braaten has joined Bolton Wanderers from Rosenborg for an undisclosed fee, subject to international clearance, the Premier League club said. The 25-year-old, who has signed a three-year contract, will become the club's 11th pre-season signing under new manager Sammy Lee.

Litmanen: Finland striker Jari Litmanen will be out of action for up to six months because of an upcoming operation on his left Achilles tendon. The injury means the 36-year-old former Ajax Amsterdam, Barcelona and Liverpool player will miss the rest of Finland's Euro 2008 qualifying campaign. Litmanen has struggled with injuries since joining Malmo in 2005. He had not made a single appearance for the club this year.

Newcastle: Villarreal have agreed to sell left back Jose Enrique to Premier League side Newcastle United, the Primera Liga club said. The 21-year-old is a Spanish youth international.

Wiltord: Sylvain Wiltord's Lyon future remains unclear after the France forward missed this week's official pre-season photo session. Wiltord had been talking to Stade Rennes but Lyon, who have criticised him for poor discipline, said he would not go there.
