World Cup rotation: FIFA president Sepp Blatter has said he expects rotation of the World Cup between continents to be ended by a FIFA executive committee next week, which would clear the way for England to bid for the 2018 tournament. Blatter met British Prime Minister Gordon Brown at Downing Street yesterday, with the 2018 World Cup top of the agenda during half-an-hour of talks. Other countries which have hinted they may bid for the 2018 finals include Australia, China and Russia.

D'Alessandro: Real Zaragoza's Argentine midfielder Andres D'Alessandro was thrown out of training on Tuesday for complaining to coach Victor Fernandez that other players were being let off lightly during the session. Last week, the 26-year-old international also had a run-in with Argentine team-mate Pablo Aimar during training.

Getafe: Getafe coach Michael Laudrup has decided to rest Swiss international midfielder Fabio Celestini and Nigerian striker Ikechukwu Uche for the team's UEFA Cup match at Tottenham tonight. Romanian full-back Cosmin Contra will miss the trip because of injury.

Tottenham: Tottenham boss Martin Jol has denied reports of a rift with star striker Dimitar Berbatov. It was suggested that Jol had to ask four times before the Bulgarian agreed to warm up in readiness to come on during Monday's defeat by Newcastle. "It did not happen," Jol said last night. "I think our relationship is very good."

Megson: Manager Gary Megson has urged Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric to clarify his future at the club. Megson is the front-runner to become Bolton boss. Bolton have twice approached Leicester for permission to speak to Megson. "I've had a couple of meetings with the chairman over the past days," Megson said. "We have to clear this issue immediately."
