Deportivo: Former Sevilla coach Joaquin Caparros has said he is in talks with Deportivo to take charge of the Galician side next season. The 49-year-old, who left Sevilla last week after five years at the helm, confirmed he had met Deportivo president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro to discuss terms. Deportivo parted company last week with long-serving coach Javier Irureta, who left after leading the club to the biggest successes of its 99-year history during his seven-season spell in charge. Under Irureta, Deportivo won the league in 2000, the King's Cup in 2002 and qualified for the Champions League five times.

Stadium violence: The Italian government introduced new measures aimed at defeating persistent hooligan violence in soccer stadiums. The measures include the introduction of personalised, numbered tickets for all stadium seats and improved closed-circuit video coverage of the crowds. In April, a Champions League quarter-final between Inter and Milan was abandoned after fans hurled scores of flares on to the pitch, injuring Milan's 'keeper Dida.

Man. United: Manchester United have approached PSV about buying their South Korean midfielder Park Ji-sung. Park is on World Cup duty with Korea and will not make a decision until he has talked with coach Guus Hiddink, who is on holiday.

Rebrov: Former Ukraine international striker Serhiy Rebrov has returned to his old club Dynamo Kiev after a troubled five-year spell in English football. According to a report on the club's official website yesterday, Dynamo said they had signed the 31-year-old free agent to a three-year contract.

Carlos Alberto: Brazil's Carlos Alberto Torres was sacked as Azerbaijan's national team coach yesterday following a 3-0 home defeat by Poland in Saturday's World Cup qualifier. It was Azerbaijan's fourth consecutive defeat in their qualifying campaign, which also included a 8-0 drubbing by Poland in March, leaving the former Soviet republic bottom of European Group Six with just two points from seven matches.

Leboeuf: Former France international sweeper Frank Leboeuf has decided to retire at the age of 37. "I'm stopping now," Leboeuf was quoted as saying yesterday. "I didn't want to make any official announcement about this. I don't like to see myself on the front page." Leboeuf took part in France's triumphant 1998 World Cup campaign, winning 50 caps for Les Bleus from 1995 to 2002. He played for Strasbourg, Chelsea and Marseille before moving to Qatar in 2003.

Prandelli: Cesare Prandelli has been named manager of Serie A club Fiorentina. He replaces former Italy World Cup winner Dino Zoff. Prandelli quit as coach of Roma last August after two months in the job to spend time with his wife, who was seriously ill.
