Suker: Davor Suker, one of the biggest names in Croatian football, has been questioned for more than three hours by police after his business partner was shot dead at the weekend. A Zagreb police spokes-man confirmed media reports that Suker was interviewed on Monday, following the mafia-style execution of Dino Pokrovac. Suker and Pokrovac had jointly worked as soccer agents involved in transactions of players.

Diouf: Senegal striker El Hadji Diouf says he is on the brink of completing a permanent transfer from European champions Liverpool to Bolton. "You are going to be the first to know. I'm going to sign for Bolton for four years," Diouf told the Senegalese daily L'Observateur yesterday.

Robert: Newcastle winger Laurent Robert joined Ports-mouth for an undisclosed fee yesterday. The French international agreed a three-year contract with the club.

Matthaeus: Former Germany captain Lothar Matthaeus has applied for the vacant manager's job at Hearts. "He has expressed an interest by post and will be considered along with the other candidates," a club spokeswoman said. Matthaeus, 44, has been coach of Hungary since December 2003.

Glazer: US financier Malcolm Glazer said yesterday he held 97.3 per cent of Manchester United, pushing him close to the level which gives him the right to buy out any remaining shareholders. Glazer said he was extending his offer until June 27, seeking to gain a key 97.6 per cent level needed to buy out compulsorily the last remaining shareholders.

Cech: Chelsea keeper Petr Cech won the Golden Ball award as the Czech Republic's player of the season yesterday, beating five-times winner Pavel Nedved. The 23-year-old becomes the first keeper to win the award.
