Real Signings: Real Madrid have signed Uruguayan internationals Pablo Garcia and Carlos Diogo. Midfielder Garcia has signed a four-year contract and defender Diogo a five-year deal. Garcia, 28, has a reputation as a tough-tackling midfielder, though he was also the main playmaker for Primera Liga side Osasuna. He will compete for the midfield holding role at Real with Thomas Gravesen. Diogo, 21, signed from Argentine side River Plate, is a versatile player comfortable in defence or midfield.

Zenden: Liverpool are poised to complete the signing of Dutch midfielder Boudewijn Zenden on a free transfer from Middlesbrough, the European champions said yesterday. The 28-year-old international has agreed a contract and will be unveiled at a news conference tomorrow.

Maxi Rodriguez: Argentine striker Maxi Rodriguez has signed for Atletico Madrid from Spanish rivals Espanyol as the Primera Liga club continue to strengthen their strike force. The 24-year-old, top scorer at Espanyol last season with 15 goals, signed for the Madrid side after passing a medical exam. Atletico, who finished a disappointing 12th last season, have already recruited Argentine coach Carlos Bianchi to replace the sacked Cesar Ferrando and last week signed Serbia striker Mateja Kezman from Chelsea.
