Davids: Dutch international Edgar Davids has joined Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer from Inter. The 32-year-old midfielder will undergo a medical and agree personal terms later this week, the English club said. "He is one of the most versatile midfielders, a ball-winner with great stamina and huge charisma and one of the best midfielders to come out of the Netherlands in the last 10 years," Spurs coach Martin Jol told the club's website.

Henchoz: Stephane Henchoz yesterday signed a one-year deal with Premier League newcomers Wigan. The 30-year-old Swiss defender also played for Blackburn and made more than 200 appearances for Liverpool. Henchoz signed for Celtic on loan last season but made only two starts. Wigan have also signed Rotherham goalkeeper Mike Pollitt and defenders Pascal Chimbonda and Ryan Taylor from Bastia and Tranmere respectively.

Svensson: Sweden midfielder Anders Svensson looks set to miss World Cup qualifiers at home to Bulgaria on September 3 and in Hungary four days later with a knee injury. Svensson will be out of action for four to six weeks after sustaining the injury playing for Elfsborg in a Swedish first division match against Assyriska on Monday. Sweden are second in World Cup qualifying Group Eight, one point behind Croatia who they face on October 8. They also face the Czech Republic in a friendly on August 17.

Tired Players: Real Madrid's players have complained about the punishing schedule of their lucrative pre-season tour of the US and Asia. "We came to Japan to win the hearts of the people but it isn't easy to play with so much travelling," Ronaldo said. "Eventually you pay for making such an effort." Zinedine Zidane added: "At the end of the tour you really notice the travelling and this is the problem."

Finland Coach: Jyrki Heliskoski has been appointed caretaker coach of Finland for the rest of their 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign. The 59-year-old Heliskoski replaces Antti Muurinen on a temporary basis. Heliskoski has previously coached HJK Helsinki. Muurinen, 51, who had been in charge since 2000, was sacked after his team's hopes of reaching the World Cup finals were virtually ended by a 4-0 home defeat by the Netherlands last month.
