Tottenham: Tottenham manager Martin Jol has hinted that his club's new sporting director could be an Englishman. Spurs are looking to maintain their management structure despite the summer departure of Frank Arnesen to Chelsea. Jol said: "There are so many things at a professional club nowadays, especially a big club like Spurs. I think you need somebody. And I think it could be an English person. It's an advantage, you can talk English. One Dutchman is enough."

Bonazzoli: Sampdoria are reportedly closing in on a deal for Reggina's Emiliano Bonazzoli. Sampdoria have turned their attentions to Bonazzoli after failing to prise Riccardo Zampagna away from Messina and seeing Bernardo Corradi opt for Parma. It is understood a basic €1.5m has been agreed between the two clubs and Bonazzoli could conclude the move within days. Samp have been desperately looking for a new forward after Fabio Bazzani damaged knee ligaments during pre-season.

Jenas: Newcastle manager Graeme Souness has placed a £15 million price tag on Jermaine Jenas, 22. Souness remains keen to keep Jenas, despite admitting last week the midfielder is unsettled at St James' Park. But the Scot acknowledged that the Magpies will consider a substantial offer for the England international, who has also been linked with Manchester United, Arsenal and Middlesbrough. "From our point of view, we want to keep him," Souness said. "He's a valuable member of the squad and we're looking to build things here."

South Africa: South Africa will play Iceland in a friendly international in Reykjavik on August 17, officials confirmed yesterday. The match will serve as warm-up for the country's World Cup qualifier in Burkina Faso on September 3. South Africa also have a friendly international against World Cup hosts Germany in Bremen on September 7.

Spain: Spain will play Canada in a friendly international in Santander on September 3 as part of their preparation for their World Cup qualifier against Serbia. Primera Liga side Racing Santander said that the Spanish Football Federation had confirmed that the match would take place at their El Sardinero stadium.
