Baros: Aston Villa have agreed terms with Liverpool to sign Czech Republic striker Milan Baros. Baros will have a medical today with a view to signing a four-year contract, Villa said. "We have reached an agreement with Liverpool to sign the player and the next step is for him to have a medical," the club said. "Hopefully we can conclude the deal."

Sunderland: Racing Strasbourg midfielder Christian Bassila has joined Sunderland on a two-year deal, sports daily L'Equipe's website reported yesterday. It will be his second spell in the English Premier League, having played for West Ham United in 2001. Bassila, 27, started his professional career at Olympique Lyon.

Woodgate: Defender Jonathan Woodgate has been included in the Real Madrid squad to face the Major League Soccer (MLS) All-Stars in the Santiago Bernabeu Trophy today. It is the first time the 25-year-old Briton has been called into Real's squad since moving from Newcastle United last August for around 20 million euros ($24.95 million). The central defender has not played a competitive game since tearing a thigh muscle while playing for Newcastle against Chelsea in April 2004.

Jarosik: Midfielder Jiri Jarosik has joined Birmingham on loan from champions Chelsea, with a view to making the deal permanent at the end of the season. The 27-year-old Czech international made 20 appearances for Chelsea after transferring from CSKA Moscow in January. "At his best I think he's an attacking midfield player who likes to get on the end of crosses and it's his versatility that really appeals," Birmingham manager Steve Bruce said.

Portsmouth: Portsmouth have completed the signing of Danish international defender Brian Priske from Belgian side Racing Genk, the Premier League club said yesterday. The 28-year-old has signed a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee reported to be in the region of 750,000 euros.

Samuel: Inter defender Walter Samuel was handed a three-match ban after being found guilty of spitting at Juve midfielder Pavel Nedved during the Italian Supercup. The referee failed to spot the incident at the time, but Samuel was punished by the disciplinary committee of the Italian Football League on the basis of TV footage of Saturday's match, which Inter won 1-0.
