Celtic win: Celtic coasted to a 4-0 win at Dunfermline yesterday to give their fans even more to cheer about following rivals Rangers' shock 3-0 home defeat by Hibernian 24 hours earlier. Polish international striker Maciej Zurawski got his first goals for the club, opening the scoring after five minutes with a low shot and completing it 16 minutes from time. John Hartson side-footed an easy second following a mix-up in the Dunfermline defence. Japanese midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura made it 3-0 in the 57th minute. Other result - Dundee Utd vs Inverness 1-1.

Olisadebe: Nigerian-born striker Emmanuel Olisadebe was recalled by Poland after an 18-month absence for World Cup European Group Six qualifiers against Austria and Wales next month. The popular "Oli", who had been plagued by knee trouble, is back in form and scored two goals against Wisla Krakow to help his Greek club Panathinaikos qualify for the Champions League. Coach Pawel Janas' 25-strong squad, as expected, does not include Liverpool keeper Jerzy Dudek, who has an elbow injury.

Solano: Midfielder Nolberto Solano has been left out of Peru's squad for next month's World Cup qualifier away to Venezuela, increasing speculation of a row between himself and coach Freddy Ternero. Solano was left on the bench for the match at home to Uruguay last June, when the 0-0 draw virtually ended Peru's chances of qualifying for their first World Cup since 1982. Afterwards, the 30-year-old, who is based in England with Aston Villa, suggested he had played his last match for his country.

Benfica: Champions Benfica suffered an embarrassing 2-0 home defeat by unfancied Gil Vicente last weekend. Benfica, who began their title defence with a goalless draw at Academica the previous weekend, are 12th in the 18-team Portuguese Premier League after two games. Benfica squandered several chances to score and captain Simao Sabrosa had a penalty saved by goalkeeper Jose Batista.

Valente: Everton have completed the signing of Portugal defender Nuno Valente for an undisclosed fee from Porto. The 30-year-old left back, who passed a medical in Liverpool yesterday and signed a three-year deal, has 18 caps and played in Portugal's run to the Euro 2004 final. He won the Champions League with Porto the same year. The 30-year-old is an immediate replacement for Italian Alessandro Pistone, who could be out for six months with a knee injury sustained last week.

Bundesliga: A. Bielefeld vs Mainz 2-0; Duisburg vs B. Dortmund 1-1.

Ligue 1: Auxerre vs Lyon 0-2; Monaco vs Lens 0-0.
