Boere dies: Former West Ham United striker Jeroen Boere died in his house in Spain on Thursday, Dutch radio station RTV Rijnmond said yesterday. The 39-year-old, who retired from football in 1999 when he lost an eye after being stabbed in Japan, worked in Spain as a real estate agent. Cause of death could not be confirmed.

Campbell out: Portsmouth central defender Sol Campbell has pulled out of England's squad for the friendly with Germany at Wembley on Wednesday because of a groin injury. Campbell, selected for the first time since Steve McClaren took charge of England last year, missed Portsmouth's 3-1 victory over Bolton Wanderers yesterday.

In Bulgaria: A Bulgarian second division match between Lokomotiv Mezdra and Minyor Pernik was suspended midway through the second half yesterday after a linesman was hit by objects thrown from the crowd. Referee Anatoli Donchev stopped play in the season opener in the 69th minute after linesman Neshko Marinov was hit on the head and knee by the missiles thrown by visiting Minyor Pernick fans.

Tottenham: Tottenham have made a £4.6million offer to Portsmouth for Matt Taylor. Spurs made their move last week after Jol met with chairman Daniel Levy for talks over transfer targets after a disappointing start to the season.
