Celtic Win: Celtic knocked holders Rangers out of the League Cup with a 2-0 win in last night's quarter-final. Shaun Maloney rifled a spectacular 30-metre shot into the top right-hand corner after 27 minutes to open the scoring in a ragged first half at Parkhead. Celtic began to dominate the match after Rangers defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos was sent off for a second booking in the 66th minute. The home side sealed their place in the last four with eight minutes left as Bobo Balde challenged Rangers' German goalkeeper Stefan Klos for a ball into the box and as they collided and fell it bounced off the back of the keeper and into his own net.

Bergodi: Cristiano Bergodi is preparing to sign a seven-month deal to become the third Italian to coach Romanian first division club National Bucharest. The 41-year-old Bergodi, a Lazio defender for several seasons, was deputy coach at Serie A team Lecce. Before, he also played for Sliema Wanderers in Europe. "I don't know too much things about my new team," said Bergodi. "But I know that the team was successfully trained by Zenga and Landi and this is an honour for me."

Sturm Graz: SK Sturm Graz failed to elect a new president at a turbulent annual general meeting yesterday as the club unveiled a two million euro hole in its finances that needs to be filled by next summer. The Premier League team's vice president Karl Platzer abruptly pulled out of the race to succeed Hannes Kartnig just before the meeting, saying the club had more debt than he had known before.

Streakers case: Hansa Rostock have won 20,000 euros in compensation for a German soccer league fine of the same amount from three streakers who disrupted a Bundesliga match. The three fans bolted across the pitch in Rostock's 1-0 defeat against Hertha Berlin in a Bundesliga match 2003. Rostock, now in the second division, were fined by the German soccer league (DFL) for insufficient security.

Yemen: FIFA has provisionally lifted the suspension imposed on Yemen's football association (YFF) in August. FIFA had imposed the suspension for what it called serious interference by political authorities in the internal affairs of the YFF.

Real Deal: Real Madrid have agreed a new sponsorship deal with BenQ Mobile, which will take effect from next season and run until 2010. According to reports, the deal is worth around 100 million euros over five years.
