Wenger: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has decided not to pursue a threat of legal action against his Chelsea counterpart Jose Mourinho. The pair became embroiled in a war of words ahead of November's international break. Mourinho had upset Wenger by calling him a "voyeur" obsessed with Chelsea, but after considering his options the Frenchman has decided not to take matters further as he does not feel there was enough malice behind Mourinho's statement. I tried to think about it during the break and I cannot see that statement to be malicious or vicious enough," Wenger said. "I hope I am right that nothing malicious was planned behind it."

Real Madrid: Ronaldo and David Beckham are both doubtful for Real Madrid's league match away to Real Sociedad tomorrow after missing training yesterday. Brazil striker Ronaldo was unable to participate in the session because of continued problems with his left ankle. Midfielder Beckham received treatment for the back pain that led to his substitution in the 1-1 Champions League draw against Olympique Lyon on Wednesday. A final decision on the availability of both players will be made this morning, the Primera Liga club said.

Ballack: Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has ruled out a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Ballack. Ferguson confirmed an interest in the 29-year-old Germany international but told reporters he had switched his sights to other targets to strengthen the United squad when the transfer window opens in January. "I think he is a great player and a fantastic footballer but he is similar to players who play in that position for us, like Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes, who are the same type of player," he said. "We want to target players we actually need very badly."

McLeish: Rangers manager Alex McLeish is confident he can turn round his side's poor run of form and secure his future at Ibrox. "You heard the chairman a week ago and the position is still the same - we will review things in December," McLeish said ahead of tomorrow's match against Hibernian. Champions Rangers trail rivals Celtic by 15 points in the Premier League and McLeish has been fiercely criticised by the fans.

Liverpool: Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez says the European Cup winners are now strong enough to cope with the number of games they have after failing to mount a challenge in the Premier League last season. "It was hard last season to cope with Europe and the Premier League all at once. I hope we have learned and can use the squad in a way to approach each game with a different team but just as strong," Benitez said. "We are improving after Champions League games and internationals, we are better equipped now for that."

South Africa: Romanian-born Ted Dumitru was named as South Africa's caretaker coach for next January's African Nations Cup finals. The 66-year-old Dumitru takes over from Englishman Stuart Baxter for the tournament in Egypt, where South Africa have been drawn in Group B with defending champions Tunisia, Guinea and Zambia. Baxter resigned earlier this month after a run of nine matches without a win.
