Derby: Championship side Derby County have appointed former defender Gary Rowett as their new manager on a contract that runs until the end of the 2018-19 season, the club confirmed yesterday. The 43-year-old Rowett, who made 120 appearances for Derby from 1995-98, has been out of work since he was sacked by Birmingham City in December when they were seventh in the table.

Friendly: Arsenal will face their Champions League tormentors Bayern Munich in a pre-season friendly in China. Arsene Wenger’s men were hammered 5-1 by the German giants in each leg of their Champions League last 16 tie, resulting in a humiliating 10-2 aggregate defeat earlier this month. But they will do battle with Bayern again at the Shanghai Stadium on July 19, as part of the International Champions Cup.

Gudjohnsen: Swansea have signed the 16-year-old half-brother of former Chelsea and Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen. Arnor Borg Gudjohnsen has joined Swansea’s academy on a two-year scholarship from Icelandic club Breidablik UBK. Gudjohnsen, who plays in the number 10 position behind the main striker, impressed during trials at the Premier League club earlier this year.

Gueye: Arsenal are eyeing Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye this summer – to turn him into their own N’Golo Kante, The Sun reported yesterday. The midfielder has shown impressive form since arriving at Goodison Park from Aston Villa in the summer with some comparing him to Chelsea star Kante as the Gunners look to shore up their squad.

Warnock: Cardiff boss Neil Warnock has taken a swipe at sacked Wigan manager Warren Joyce by saying he did not consider the Latics to be a “threat” once they appointed him in November. “No disrespect but when Wigan appointed him, I was delighted,” Warnock told BBC Radio Wales Sport. “I didn’t think they were going to be a threat to us. I like Warren but you can’t just put someone into the Championship who’s never been there.”
