Nancy: Nancy reached their first domestic final for 28 years yesterday when they beat Le Mans 2-0 in the semi-finals of the French League Cup. Nancy will face Nice at the Stade de France after the Riviera club defeated their neighbours Monaco 1-0 with a late goal from midfielder Ederson on Tuesday. The match on April 22 will be a replay of the 1978 Cup final when Michel Platini scored the winner for Nancy.

Edu: Valencia midfielder Edu resumed training with the first team yesterday after missing most of the season because of a serious knee injury. The club said the 27-year-old Brazilian international would re-introduced to full training over the next three weeks.

Rix: Hearts manager Graham Rix said yesterday he would not quit and refused to comment on reports that the Scottish club's Lithuanian chairman Vladimir Romanov was picking the team. "No chance, I am not a quitter," he said after being asked if he would walk away. Rix, 48, has only been in charge since last November. He replaced George Burley.

Sammer: Matthias Sammer will take up the post of technical director of the German FA on April 1. The German FA decided at a meeting yesterday to appoint the 38-year-old former international on a five-year contract. Sammer will effectively take control of the country's youth teams up to the U-20 age group.

Rasiak: Poland striker Grzegorz Rasiak has left Tottenham for Southampton in a loan deal expected to become permanent for a fee of about 2.0 million at the end of the season. Southampton have also signed midfielder Richard Chaplow on loan from West Brom.

Galatasaray: Players from heavily indebted Galatasaray boycotted training yesterday after hearing two of the Istanbul club's foreign players had received their salaries. A club statement said senior players had held a meeting with the club's management to discuss their financial difficulties. State-run Anatolian news agency said players met at the club's training ground and decided to stay away from the morning session because they had not been paid for four months.

Valencia: Valencia were fined 6,000 euros after a linesman was cut on the head by an object thrown from the crowd during their recent King's Cup tie against Deportivo. The Spanish FA classed the incident, which led to the referee abandoning the game, as "serious" and issued the maximum fine permitted for an offence in that category.
