Civil damages: The Danish FA (DBU) said yesterday it would seek civil damages of 1.9 million crowns ($348,500) from the drunken fan who attacked the referee in a Euro 2008 qualifier against Sweden in June. The DBU said it would lose income because Denmark's next two Euro 2008 qualifiers could not be played at the Parken stadium in Copenhagen, following UEFA sanctions, but would be played at a smaller venue.

Lampard injured: Chelsea and England midfielder Frank Lampard has torn a muscle in his left thigh. Lampard suffered the injury in training yesterday, with a hospital scan confirming the tear. Earlier, Lampard was named in Steve McClaren's England squad for the next two Euro 2008 qualifiers against Israel and Russia in the next two weeks, but his participation in those games is now in doubt.

Ricardo: Bordeaux entertain joint leaders Monaco today in a match that will be special for Brazilian coach Ricardo, who left Bordeaux for Monaco during the close season. Not everybody at Bordeaux misses Ricardo, however. "I would have left had he stayed", Bordeaux's Tunisia defender David Jemmali said. "He treated us like pawns in the game."

Sevilla: Sevilla have spent a club record fee of 12 million euros on Ivory Coast striker Arouna Kone, who agreed to join the UEFA Cup holders on a five-year deal from PSV Eindhoven. Kone's arrival means that Uruguayan striker Ernesto Chevanton is almost certain to be loaned out to another club this season.

Wigan: English Premier League club Wigan Athletic have signed striker Marcus Bent on a season's loan from Charlton Athletic, who were relegated to the second division last season. Wigan is the 10th club of Bent's career.

Motta: Atletico Madrid have agreed to sign Barcelona's Thiago Motta. The 25-year-old product of the Barca youth will sign a one-year deal after being told he was surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp. Motta's arrival as a holding midfielder has facilitated the sale of Atletico's Frenchman Peter Luccin to Real Zaragoza.
