Euro 2012: Ukraine's bid to co-host the 2012 European Championship is in serious doubt because of a row over a construction site next to the ex-Soviet state's main stadium. FIFA has told Ukraine's soccer federation it will withdraw permission for international matches to be played at Kiev's 84,000-seat Olympic stadium because of the construction of a nearby shopping and entertainment complex. Ukraine's joint bid with Poland was a surprise inclusion on the shortlist of candidates to hold the 2012 tournament along with Italy and a joint entry by Hungary and Croatia. FIFA says the site would violate safety and public order regulations.

Gerrard: Momo Sissoko's misfortune is likely to mean that captain Steven Gerrard will return to the centre of Liverpool's midfield. The England international, who has been playing in a less familiar position wide on the right for Liverpool, is set to switch to replace Sissoko. The 21-year-old Malian sustained an eye injury in the 1-0 defeat at Benfica in Tuesday's Champions League first knockout round first leg tie.

Campbell: England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson says he will not gamble on picking Sol Campbell for his World Cup squad if the Arsenal defender is not fully fit. Eriksson told a news conference yesterday that Campbell and fellow central defender Jonathan Woodgate of Real Madrid had to prove their fitness after injury-hit seasons. "I talked to Sol Campbell and he wants to be at the World Cup, that's for sure," said Eriksson. "I'm very happy about that because a fit Sol Campbell is always good to have on your side. But, he must start to play sooner or later for Arsenal, otherwise I can't pick him. And it's the same with Jonathan Woodgate - I want to see him play regular football."

Ferdinand: Rio Ferdinand will return from injury to help Manchester United's bid to win the League Cup tomorrow. The England defender has recovered from the hamstring strain that ruled him out of last Saturday's FA Cup defeat at Liverpool. Utility player John O'Shea also returns to the United squad to face Wigan Athletic at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. O'Shea successfully came through a reserve game on Tuesday after a month out of action with a rib injury.

Henry: Real Madrid president Florentino Perez believes that Arsenal striker Thierry Henry will stay with the London club next season rather than move to Spain. Asked about Real's reported interest in signing the Frenchman in an interview with radio station Onda Cero, Perez replied: "Arsenal want him to stay and I believe he will continue playing with them." Henry, who scored a brilliant individual goal in his side's 1-0 win over Real in the first leg of their Champions League knockout tie, has been linked in newspapers with both Barcelona and Real.

Carew: Norway's Football Federation (NFF) said yesterday it had reported French champions Olympique Lyon to FIFA after they failed to give striker John Carew the vaccines needed for Norway's friendly in Senegal next week. Carew will now not be able to travel to Dakar because the vaccines are necessary to visit the West African country. NFF secretary Karen Espelund told Reuters a dialogue with Lyon manager Gerard Houllier had proven difficult.

In England: League One - Swansea vs Huddersfield 2-2.

In Italy: Serie C1(B) - Perugia vs Massese 0-0.

MFA Division III: Kirkop vs Xghajra 4-1; Sirens vs Birzebbuga 0-2.
