Son decision: Tottenham forward Son Heung-min faces an anxious wait to find out if his club will grant his wish to play at the Olympic Games this summer. Son is eager to represent South Korea in Rio and is one of his country’s star players but participation would seriously curtail his contribution for Spurs at the start of next season. “We’re still waiting for the decision so I can’t say anything,” Son said. “It’s a very nice tournament and competition, and every player wants to go to play there.”

Cavani: Edinson Cavani has joined Paris St Germain’s injury list ahead of today’s Ligue 1 clash with Bordeaux. The Uruguay striker scored a hat-trick against GFC Ajaccio last time out but was substituted just before the hour mark, and a calf problem means he is unavailable. He joins midfielders Marco Verratti and Blaise Matuidi on the sidelines.

Kobelev: Russian Premier League side Dynamo Moscow’s head coach Andrei Kobelev has stepped down from his post, the club announced yesterday. The 47-year-old has had his contract cancelled through mutual consent. Sergei Chikishev, who was in charge of the youth team, has been put in temporary control of the club.

Oyston: Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston has won £30,000 libel damages from an abusive fan. Oyston brought proceedings against Stephen Reed over material posted on a website called Back Henry Street, which is used by followers of the club, in June 2015. Karl Oyston and his wife, Victoria, had been the subject of online abuse – some of which had come from the group of which Reed was part – which had caused them concern and distress, and he wanted it to stop.

Kone: Sunderland defender Lamine Kone is fit for tonight’s potentially decisive Premier League clash with Everton. Kone was replaced during the second half of Saturday’s 3-2 victory over Chelsea after suffering a thigh problem, but he has recovered and is expected to be available as the Black Cats attempt to secure the win which will secure their top-flight status.
