UEFA charge: Manchester City have been charged by UEFA after fireworks were set off during their 1-0 Champions League quarter-final, second-leg win over Paris St Germain on Tuesday night.UEFA’s disciplinary body will hear the case on May 19.

In France: Playoffs will be reinstated next season to decide promotion and relegation to and from Ligue 1, the French League (LFP) said yesterday. The LFP said in a statement that the playoffs would feature the club who finished 18th in the 20-team Ligue 1 standings and the team ending up third in Ligue 2. The first leg will be played at the Ligue 2 club. It will be the first time that playoffs will decide promotion and relegation in the French top flight since 1993.

Draxler: Wolfsburg midfielder Julian Draxler has been ruled out for at least two weeks with torn muscle fibres in his leg. The injury, picked up in their 3-0 Champions League defeat by Real Madrid on Tuesday, comes at a bad time for the Germany international with the European Championship in France only two months away. Germany coach Joachim Loew is due to announce his preliminary squad next month.

Sanches: Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Benfica’s Renato Sanches, according to the Manchester Evening News. Club scouts watched Sanches play 90 minutes for Benfica in Wednesday’s Champions League draw with Bayern Munich, according to the paper, with United said to be lining up a £40m bid in the summer for the 18-year-old.

Cavani: Edinson Cavani is being monitored by Juventus for a potential 40m euro deal, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. The Uruguayan, currently at PSG, has two more years to run on his deal with the Ligue 1 side, who were knocked out of the Champions League by Manchester City on Tuesday. The Italian daily report Cavani could earn 6.5m euros a season at Juventus.

Agbonlahor: Aston Villa have axed Gabriel Agbonlahor from the first team and put him on a fitness drive. Caretaker boss Eric Black made the call in a meeting with the striker earlier this week after deeming the club captain was out of condition. Agbonlahor will not feature for Villa, who could be relegated from the Premier League tomorrow, for two weeks during his personal boot camp.
