Hull: Hull City have announced plans to scrap season tickets next season and replace them with a new membership scheme which could save fans up to £282. The club said the new Earn Your Stripes Season Membership will ensure they are one of the cheapest clubs to watch in the Premier League should they win promotion with savings of up to 47 per cent if they remain in the Championship.

Beckenbauer: Franz Beckenbauer has announced he is to step down from his role as a pundit for Sky television in Germany. The 70-year-old was implicated in an investigation into the alleged buying of votes to ensure Germany won the right to stage the 2006 World Cup. “I’m 70 years old now and I’ve been in the public eye for over 50 years now,” he said. “I’ve travelled who knows how many times around the world for football, be it as a player, coach or functionary, and after such a long time, I would now like to give myself a break.”

Diaby: Marseille midfielder Abou Diaby is delighted to see the green light for his long-awaited return to action. The 29-year-old has not played a competitive match since November 2014. “At the current time, I can say all the lights are green, I am ready to play. It has been a long period with a lot of injuries but I have never felt so close to a return.”

Schaefer: Former Cologne head coach Frank Schaefer will leave his job as director of the youth academy at the Bundesliga club at the end of the month. The 52-year-old had been at the club since 1982 and filled a number of coaching roles before guiding the first team to a club record seven home wins in a row in the 2010-11 season and promotion to the Bundesliga. Following Frank Schaefer’s departure sporting director Jorg Jakobs will run the youth academy until a new structure is put in place.
