No Bribe: Munich daily tz has retracted a report that Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger was questioned by police in connection with an investigation into alleged match-fixing. On the front-page of today's issue, tz writes that its report on Friday that Schweinsteiger and second division TSV 1860 Munich players Paul Agostino and Quido Lanzaat had been questioned by police was "untrue". The daily also published a statement by Schweinsteiger saying the report was completely wrong.

Wiltord: Champions Olympique Lyon have started discussions to renew France winger Sylvain Wiltord's contract, club chairman Jean-Michel Aulas said yesterday. Wiltord's contract is due to expire at the end of the season. The 31-year-old winger, who has scored 25 goals in 77 games for France, joined the four-times French champions from Arsenal as a free agent in August 2004.

Puzach: Former Soviet striker and Dynamo Kiev assistant coach Anatoly Puzach died yesterday after a long illness. He was 65. Puzach won four Soviet league titles with Dynamo Kiev in the 1960s and 70s and played in the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, where the Soviet Union reached the quarter-finals. He will be remembered best as the long-time assistant to the great Ukrainian coach Valery Lobanovsky. After finishing his playing career with Dynamo in 1973, Puzach began working with Lobanovsky at the club and they led Kiev to eight league titles and six Soviet Cups between 1974 and 1990.

Neuville: Germany coach Juergen Klinsmann has called striker Oliver Neuville into his squad for Wednesday's World Cup warm-up against the United States in Dortmund. The Borussia Moenchengladbach player was drafted in after Torsten Frings and Mike Hanke withdrew because of injuries sustained in Bundesliga matches, the German Football Association said yesterday.

Anti-racism law: Spain's government has drafted a law to help combat racism in sport that threatens tougher fines, points deductions and even relegation for football clubs in serious cases. "I hope we never have to use them but it will be a warning to everyone that they could be applied," Spanish sports minister Jaime Lissavetzky was quoted as saying. The proposals, which Lissavetzky hopes will become law in around six months, include fines of up to 650,000 euros for individuals, and bans from attending sporting events. Fines for clubs would reach a maximum of 90,000 euros.
