Cole: Manchester City striker Andy Cole has had more surgery on a damaged knee ligament and will be out for the rest of the season, the Premier League club said yesterday. The former England forward suffered the injury against Charlton Athletic on Feb. 12 and has not played since. Cole, 34, has scored 10 goals since joining City from Fulham last July.

Solskjaer: Manchester United want to offer striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a new contract and extend his 10-year stay with the Premier League club. "He has been a fantastic player for us and a fantastic individual. I know he wants to stay and I am sure something will be sorted out," United chief executive David Gill said. Solskjaer, whose contract expires at the end of the season, is expected to be offered a pay-as-you-play deal.

Record Attendance: Manchester United hope to set a club record attendance for their Premier League game against Birmingham City on Sunday. United are nearing the end of a $43 million development of two corner areas of their Old Trafford ground, which will provide a further 8,000 seats and corporate facilities. The first section of extra seating will be opened on Sunday when United hope to attract a bigger crowd than the 70,504 who watched a game against Aston Villa on December 27, 1920.

JOL: Tottenham Hotspur manager Martin Jol says he would not be interested in taking over at PSV Eindhoven should manager Guus Hiddink step down. "I'm focused on this club," Jol told reporters when asked about joining the Dutch champions. "This is my first club as a manager and I love this club. My plan is to stay here." Jol had been linked with the PSV job along with Borussia Dortmund's Bert van Marwijk and Henk ten Cate, who is Frank Rijkaard's assistant at Barcelona.

Ivory Coast: Ivory Coast will play Switzerland, Chile and Slovenia in friendlies before the World Cup in June. The Ivorians will play fellow World Cup finalists Switzerland in Basle on May 27. They will then move to France where they meet Chile in Vittel on May 30 and Slovenia at Evry-Bondoufle in the Paris region on June 4.

FA Cup: Quarter-final - Charlton vs Middlesbrough 0-0.
