Evans: Ched Evans’s latest attempt to have his rape conviction overturned is being discussed by the body that investigates alleged miscarriages of justice. The former Sheffield United and Wales footballer applied for a review by the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) last year. Evans, 26, was released from prison last year after serving half of his five-year sentence for the rape of a 19-year-old woman in a hotel in Rhyl in April 2012. The footballer has always maintained his innocence.

Falcao: Striker Radamel Falcao will be absent when Chelsea seek a first home win of the season in today’s Champions League Group G clash with Maccabi Tel-Aviv. The on-loan Monaco striker has a minor problem and his absence is expected to be for one game only.

De la Torre: Guadalajara have fired coach Jose de la Torre after Mexico’s most popular club started the season with five defeats in their opening eight fixtures. The Chivas said in a statement that the former Mexico coach, who started his second stint in charge of the club last October, had not “achieved the results that the team requires”. De la Torre, fired by Mexico in 2013, was Guadalajara’s 12th coach in the last four years.

Liverpool: Liverpool are setting up a full-time coaching programme for schools in the United Arab Emirates, the club announced yesterday. “The youth coaching project, which will initially focus on schools in Dubai, will officially start from October 2015 and will provide a unique opportunity for young players to learn to play ‘The Liverpool Way’,” a statement said. Liverpool ambassador Ian Rush, the club’s record goalscorer, said the academy was “a great opportunity for the club to positively influence the game in the UAE”.

Fined: Milan have been fined €10,000 as their fans were adjudged to have shone a laser pen into the eyes of Inter players and the referee during Sunday night’s derby at the San Siro stadium, the Italian league said yesterday. Inter were also fined €5,000 after their supporters detonated a firecracker during the match, as well as using flares and smoke bombs.
