Welbeck: Arsenal will be without England forward Danny Welbeck for several months after he underwent surgery on a knee problem. The 24-year-old last played for the Gunners in April, missing both the FA Cup final and end-of-season internationals. Despite hopes Welbeck would be able to recover from bone bruising around the knee, Arsenal announced yesterday the player had needed an operation and was now set for an extended spell of rehabilitation.

Chelsea: Chelsea FC will team up with Indian IT services group Wipro Ltd to help improve its digital media strategy, the two said. Wipro will work to improve fan engagement on game days and at other times and Chelsea Managing director Christian Purslow said the deal could also help the club build on its popularity in India, “where we have over 50 million passionate supporters and where there is great potential to further our fan base”.

Noble: West Ham’s Mark Noble will be available for selection against Newcastle as soon as the international break is over after the English FA rescinded the red card he received against Liverpool. Noble was sent off for violent conduct during the Hammers’ 3-0 win at Anfield on Saturday for a challenge on Danny Ings despite the whistle already having being blown for an earlier foul.

Djilobodji: Papy Djilobodji is not in Jose Mourinho’s Champions League squad. The Senegal defender, signed from Nantes on Tuesday has been omitted from the squad for Europe’s top competition.

Bayern Munich: Bayern Munich will donate one million euros to help migrants and will set up a training camp for those arriving in Munich, as the number coming to the city rises. Thousands have crossed into Germany via Hungary and Austria with Munich’s train station one of the main points of entry.
