Pedro: British bookmakers suspended betting on Spain forward Pedro signing for Chelsea from Barcelona. The 28-year-old has been a target for Manchester United but reports said they pulled out of the deal and Chelsea have tabled an offer of £21m to bring him to Stamford Bridge. Pedro, who played more than 200 games for Barca, will travel to London to complete the transfer, reports said.

Britton: Veteran Leon Britton has vowed to stay at Swansea and fight for a first-team place. The midfielder seemed set to leave the club this summer but the 32-year-old has now revealed he remains part of manager Garry Monk’s plans. “I spoke to the manager about two weeks ago and it was decided that the best thing for me was to stay here,” Britton said. “I’m delighted with that. I’ve always said the first place I want to play is here at Swansea.”

Bassong: Cameroon defender Sebastien Bassong has signed a new contract to stay at Norwich City until at least 2017. Bassong, 29, joined the Norfolk club from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2012 and, after a loan spell at Watford last season, returned to help clinch promotion under manager Alex Neil, who took over in January.

Thauvin: Newcastle have signed Marseille winger Florian Thauvin on a five-year contract, the Premier League club announced yesterday. The 22-year-old Frenchman came through a medical and committed to the club until 2020. As part of the deal to bring Thauvin to St James’ Park, Remy Cabella heads the other way on a season-long loan, which will become a permanent move next summer.
