Gignac: UANL Tigres, determined to become the first Mexican team to win South America’s Libertadores Cup, have made a rare move into the European transfer market for French striker Andre-Pierre Gignac and Nigerian forward Ikechukwu Uche. Gignac, Ligue 1’s second highest scorer with 21 goals for Marseille last season, is in Mexico for a medical and to sign for Tigres. Uche, 31, has joined Tigres from Villarreal. The Mexican 2015/16 Apertura championship kicks off on July 25.

Pukki: Celtic striker Teemu Pukki has sealed a permanent switch to Brondby after last year’s loan stint with the Danish club. The Finland international failed to impress at Parkhead after joining the Hoops from Schalke 04 in 2013. He was farmed out to the Copenhagen side and managed better than he did in Scotland, scoring nine goals as he helped Brondby finish third in the Danish top flight.

Aguirre: Javier Aguirre, who was fired by Japan in February because of his alleged involvement in a match-fixing investigation, has returned to management with United Arab Emirates club Al-Wahda. The Mexican replaces Saudi Arabian Sami Al Jaber, whose contract was not renewed after the club’s fourth-placed finish in the Arabian Gulf League last month. Aguirre was at the helm when defending champions Japan made a surprise quarter-final exit to the UAE in January’s Asian Cup.

Belmadi: Djamel Belmadi has agreed to take charge of Qatari champions Lekhwiya for a second time following the departure of Michael Laudrup. Contract negotiations with Laudrup officially ended yesterday and Lekhwiya moved swiftly to appoint the Algerian. Laudrup, a gifted former player, won a double and steered Lekhwiya through to the quarter-finals in the AFC Champions League.

Charged: Dundee United striker Nadir Ciftci has been charged by the Scottish FA over his alleged bite on Dundee midfielder Jim McAlister. The Tannadice striker has been accused of sinking his teeth into his Dens rival during the Tayside Derby on the final day of the Scottish Premiership season.
