Gyor: Historic club Gyor ETO will not play in the Hungarian first division next season. The club, founded 111 years ago and crowned champions only two years ago, said that it was impossible for them to meet the requirements for the licence which would allow them to compete in the top flight. Gyor have an estimated 150 million forint ($556,091) public debt, mainly due to the collapse of brokerage firm Quaestor, the club’s main shareholder.

A-League: Skipper Alex Brosque scored two goals in three minutes around half-time to fire Sydney FC to a 4-1 victory over Adelaide United yesterday and send the Sky Blues into an A-League title decider against Melbourne Victory. Bernie Ibini opened the scoring in the 19th minute and Chris Naumoff added the fourth in the last minute but it was Brosque’s double strike that turned the match decisively towards the home side.

Gregory: John Gregory has left Crawley, the club have confirmed. The former Aston Villa boss has not taken charge of the Reds in 2015 having stepped down from his position to undergo major open heart surgery in December. Interim manager Dean Saunders failed to keep Crawley in League One and they were relegated on the final day. And yesterday an official club statement revealed they have reached an agreement with 60-year-old Gregory, who will now leave with immediate effect.

Fan dies: A supporter was shot dead during a confrontation with South African police as thousands of fans invaded the pitch at the end of champions Kaizer Chiefs’ 2-0 victory over Chippa United that closed their league campaign yesterday. The incident at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is being investigated but police spokesman Johan Rheeder said the unidentified man had tried to disarm an officer and died at the scene.
