Trapattoni: Former Italy coach Giovanni Trapattoni and ex-German international Lothar Matthaeus have formally agreed to take charge of Austrian top division side Red Bull Salzburg. The appointment of Trapattoni and Matthaeus, as sporting director and coach respectively, was announced by the club last week, only for the two men to say they had not signed contracts. The pair finally put pen to paper yesterday.

Ronaldo: Brazil striker Ronaldo has recovered from the nagging thigh injury which forced him to miss the last six weeks of the Spanish season, coach Carlos Alberto Parreira said. Parreira intends to field Ronaldo in Brazil's opening World Cup match against Croatia on June 13, even though the 29-year-old will only regain full match fitness during the tournament.

Rui Costa: Portuguese midfielder Rui Costa is in talks with Milan to rescind his contract, he told journalists upon arrival at Lisbon airport yesterday. "I am still tied," Rui Costa said. "For now nothing is agreed. The conversations with the Italians are ongoing." Rui Costa joined Milan in 2001 from Fiorentina.

Juventus: Italian champions Juventus battered by a probe into match-fixing allegations, have appointed Alessio Secco as head of sporting activities to work with coach Fabio Capello. The Serie A club said yesterday that the move was inspired by "an innovative vision".

Fernandez: Jean Fernandez has resigned as coach of Olympique Marseille, the Ligue 1 club said. "Following a meeting between (chairman) Pape Diouf and Jean Fernandez, the resignation of the coach has been ratified," the club said. "Jean Fernandez mentioned personal reasons. The club respect his choice and wish him good luck. We will work hard to find a successor."

Lovenkrands: Denmark forward Peter Lovenkrands has signed a three-year contract with Schalke 04, the Bundesliga club said. Lovenkrands, who has 14 caps, leaves Glasgow Rangers, where he has played since 2000.
