Torres: Atletico Madrid have no intention of selling Fernando Torres despite speculation that the striker will leave the club during the close season. "We have not received any offers for Fernando Torres," club president Enrique Cerezo said. "If Fernando Torres ends up leaving Atletico it will be because he wants to, because we have no intention of selling him. If a club does make an offer for Fernando we will listen to it."

Real Blunder: Real Madrid last night apologised for a blunder that made a profile of Ruud van Nistelrooy appear briefly on their website as if the Manchester United striker had signed for the club. The Primera Liga side blamed the gaffe to a computer error but it fuelled speculation that the 30-year-old Dutch striker has already agreed to move to Spain.

La Volpe: Ricardo La Volpe said he is unlikely to remain as coach of Mexico and that he would like to lead his native Argentina. "It's been a big struggle for three-and-a-half years," said La Volpe, who took Mexico to the second round at the World Cup where they lost to 2-1 Argentina in extra-time. "It's unlikely (that I will continue) and not because of footballing reasons. With part of the media, there was a continual argument, fights, lies and comments about my character... The media has an influence over whether you can work in peace."

Manchester United Debt: Manchester United have finalised a £660 million ($1.2 billion) debt restructuring to cut their annual interest bill, yesterday's Financial Times said. The newspaper said the restructuring would strengthen the Glazer family's grip on the club and reflects their improving financial prospects. A spokesman for the Glazers said the amended structure would continue to provide team manager Alex Ferguson with "sufficient funds in the transfer market".

Aston Villa: Aston Villa are to hold an internal inquiry into the publication last week of a statement allegedly from the first-team squad criticising chairman Doug Ellis, the Premier League club announced. Last Friday, British media reported that the Villa players had issued a joint statement expressing concerns over Ellis's running of the club. Aston Villa responded with a denial that the comments had come from the whole squad.

Bent: Charlton Athletic striker Darren Bent has signed a new four-year contract. The 22-year-old, who scored 22 goals in all competitions last season, has been linked with several leading clubs despite just missing out on a place in the England squad for the World Cup finals.

Landzaat: Netherlands midfielder Denny Landzaat has signed a three-year deal with Wigan Athletic, the English Premier League club said yesterday. The 30-year-old AZ Alkmaar captain, who played at the World Cup in Germany, scored 10 goals last season as his team finished runners-up to PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch league.

Friendly: Kaiser Chiefs vs Manchester United 0-1.
