Miguel: Portuguese right-back Luis Miguel has committed his future to Valencia after extending his contract until June 2012. The 27-year-old, who joined Valencia in 2005 following five seasons at Benfica, added two years to his old deal which was due to expire in 2010.

Hagi quits: Gheorghe Hagi resigned as Steaua Bucharest coach on Thursday after his team lost their opening Champions League group match 2-1 away to Slavia Prague, the club owner Gigi Becali said. Hagi's decision was not unexpected after club owner Becali repeatedly interfered in team matters, including picking the lineup.

Arsenal: Arsenal could be without six players for tomorrow's home game against promoted Derby County. Four are definitely out, keeper Jens Lehmann (elbow), midfielder Tomas Rosicky (hamstring) and defenders Emmanuel Eboue (ankle) and William Gallas (groin). Manager Arsene Wenger said that defender Philippe Senderos (hip) was "a doubt" and midfielder Aleksandr Hleb (knee) "a major doubt."

Ranieri: Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri has hailed Serie A leaders AS Roma for their style of play ahead of their meeting on Sunday. "Roma are more of a team than us. They produce the most beautiful football in Europe together with Barcelona and Arsenal," he told reporters. "But we are Juve. We cannot make excuses. We must always win."

Delgado retires: Ecuador striker Agustin Delgado, who played at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, has confirmed his international retirement. Delgado, who scored a record 32 international goals, has not played for his country since last year when he was banned for six months following his part in a brawl at the end of a league match with LDU.

Cyprus talks: An opening round of talks aimed at ending more than 50 years of deadlock in Cypriot football has ended with both sides confident of reaching a solution. The talks stopped short of considering concrete solutions to the impasse that has seen Turkish Cypriot players and clubs excluded from international competition since the founding of their breakaway association in 1955. Instead, both sides agreed to meet again in Zurich on Oct. 27.
