Sweden: Sweden have called up Teddy Lucic, Stefan Ishizaki and Fredrik Berglund for today's Euro 2008 qualifier against Liechtenstein, replacing Zlatan Ibrahimovic and two other players axed for staying out late. The decision by coach Lars Lagerback to send home Ibrahimovic, as well as Aston Villa's Olof Mellberg and Nantes's Christian Wilhelmsson, created banner headlines in Swedish media. One newspaper reported that Ibrahimovic had said he would refuse to play for the national side again, although he later told reporters that he was sorry for what happened.

Nigeria: Nigeria will seek a foreign coach for its national team, but first it must pay nine months' salary owing to the present incumbent, the Nigeria FA said. Austin Eguavoen took over as coach of the Super Eagles last year, but has spent most of his tenure unpaid and unsure of his job amid a feud between the sports ministry and the Nigeria FA.

Basile: Argentina coach Alfio Basile defended Juan Roman Riquelme after the playmaker was widely criticised for a lacklustre performance in the 3-0 defeat by Brazil. "I like Riquelme," Basile told reporters. "It's my problem. I like him even if you don't."

Bobby Robson: Former England manager Bobby Robson said he was in great form after suffering temporary loss of movement in his left leg and left arm following surgery to remove a brain tumour. "Obviously I need to continue to listen to the doctors but I've been making real progress," he said. "I can't wait to get back to football."

African Nations Cup: Angola have won the right to host the 2010 African Nations Cup finals. In an unusual move, CAF awarded the two tournaments after that, to two of the losing countries. The 2012 Nations Cup finals will be jointly hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, while Libya were awarded the 2014 tournament.
