Match Halted: An Argentine first division match was suspended in the first half after a linesman was hit by an object thrown from the crowd. The Colon-Velez Sarsfield match, played in Santa Fe on Saturday night, was the third game in Argentina which has failed to finish since the season started last month. Referee Saul Laberni stopped play in the 42nd minute after the object, identified by media as a cigarette lighter, hit the linesman, causing a cut on his face. The fan who threw the object was attacked by other supporters and arrested by police. Colon were winning 1-0 at the time.

Real Madrid: The results of the Real Madrid presidential election could be changed after former candidate Arturo Baldasano withdrew the civil lawsuit which brought about the suspension of the postal vote. Baldasano's decision means that the Spanish judge investigating alleged irregularities in the postal vote in July's election could order the inclusion of some of the estimated 10,600 votes that were sent to the club but never counted. Ramon Calderon was declared Real president after he received 8,344 votes, just 246 more than rival candidate Juan Palacios and 1,642 more than Juan Miguel Villar Mir.

Panathinaikos: Hans Backe has been sacked as coach of Greek club Panathinaikos after just four games in charge. The club said the 54-year-old Swede, who was appointed just over a month ago, would be leaving with immediate effect. Backe paid the price for an indifferent start to the season in which Panathinaikos lost 2-0 at home to Ionikos and drew 1-1 at home in Thursday's UEFA Cup tie against Ukrainian side Metalurgh Zaporizhzhya.
