Michael Mifsud: Maltese striker Michael Mifsud yesterday scored one of the goals in Lillestrom's 2-2 draw at home to Stabaek in the Norwegian league. Lillestrom found themselves in arrears after four minutes when Nannskog put the visitors in front. On the change of ends Mifsud brought the sides on level terms in the 50th minute and Lillestrom went ahead through Koren in the 73rd. But Stabaek, who now occupy fifth place in the standings, equalised, Nannskog again being the scorer. Lillestrom are in third place.

Scholes: Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes twice turned down offers of an England comeback this year, national coach Steve McClaren said yesterday. "I asked in the summer, he declined it then, I asked him again last week, he declined again," McClaren said in a radio interview. Scholes quit international football two years ago after winning 66 caps and playing in two World Cups. The 31-year-old has been in good form for United this season after an eye problem ruled him out between January and May.

Brazil: Brazil and Ecuador will play their Oct. 10 friendly in Stockholm, Swedish media reported yesterday. The match, which was originally scheduled to be played at the Nou Camp in Barcelona, will take place at the Rasunda stadium in Solna, a suburb just north of the Swedish capital. REAL Madrid: Real Madrid hung on for a 1-1 draw at home to neighbours Atletico Madrid in a tense city derby in the Primera Liga yesterday. Atletico have not won in the Bernabeu since 1999 but went ahead through striker Mista in the sixth minute, as they took the game to Real. Raul, who was dropped from the Spain squad on Friday, levelled the scores in the 37th minute, but despite Real losing Sergio Ramos to a red card midway through the second half, Atletico were unable to find a winner.
