Racism: Serbian first division side Borac Cacak face a fine and a stadium ban after fans racially abused black player Mike Tamwanyera during a league match on Saturday. Serbian Football Association (FSS) officials said the club may be ordered to pay a fine ranging from 60,000 to 600,000 dinars and to play between one and six matches behind closed doors.

Domenech: France coach Raymond Domenech said yesterday he was tired of having to answer criticism from club coaches unhappy with the demands of the national team. "I would like to close this debate, which is unproductive, pointless and stupid," Domenech said. Domenech has been criticised notably by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, Arsenal's Arsene Wenger, Alex Ferguson of Manchester United and Olympique Lyon's Gerard Houllier in recent months.

Romario: Former Brazil striker Romario arrived in Australia yesterday to prepare for his four-match guest stint with A-League club Adelaide United. The 40-year-old was mobbed by fans at the airport before holding an informal news conference. "I'm going to score plenty of goals, I come here to score goals, I don't know how many," Romario said.

2018 World Cup: Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg will formally apply in January to host the 2018 World Cup finals, the man in charge of the bid told Reuters last night. Alain Courtois, a member of the Belgian parliament and the man in charge of delivering the project, has received approval from all three associations, the governments and local authorities. Australia, England, Mexico and Spain have all expressed an interest in staging the 2018 Cup. Bids remain open until 2010.

Chievo sack coach: Serie A side Chievo have sacked their coach Giuseppe Pillon and recalled Luigi Del Neri to take his place. The decision to sack Pillon came after Chievo lost 1-0 to Torino on Sunday - their fifth defeat in six league matches so far this season.
