Nancy: French side Nancy have been barred by UEFA from wearing shirts bearing the slogan "No to racism" in their UEFA Cup matches. "We will not be allowed to have those shirts in our next UEFA Cup games," a spokesman said. "UEFA said the inscription should not appear on the shirts." UEFA, which has launched its own campaign against racism, had said the shirts did not comply with its rules because the slogan was on the neck where the only writing allowed is the name of the sponsor.

Robson: Ireland's national football adviser Bobby Robson has been medically cleared to resume his duties and will complete his two-year contract, the Football Association of Ireland said yesterday. The FAI said the 73-year-old former England manager, who has undergone surgery twice this year and missed Ireland's last four games, will link up next month with national coach Stephen Staunton and the Ireland squad.

Hamburg: Hamburg have been fined 20,000 euros after a fan threw a broken glass bottle at Werder Bremen keeper Tim Wiese in a Bundesliga game. The small bottle was one of several items thrown by Hamburg fans in the direction of Wiese during the 1-1 draw between the two northern rivals on September 23. The goalkeeper was unhurt. Hamburg are second from bottom of the Bundesliga with five points from seven games.

Pizarro: Peru striker Claudio Pizarro said yesterday that he would no longer play for his country as long as Franco Navarro remained coach of the team. "I've sent a letter to the directors of the federation informing them that while this coach continues I will not play for the national team," said the Bayern Munich striker. Pizarro's decision follows controversy after he played in only one of Peru's two friendly internationals against Chile earlier this month.

Carbone: Italian striker Benito Carbone is leaving Sydney FC after suffering a hamstring injury and failing to agree a contract extension, the A-League club said. The 35-year-old joined Sydney on a four-match guest contract but failed to reach agreement over terms to stay until the end of the season. Carbone, formerly with Inter, Sheffield Wednesday, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough, scored two goals in three games for Sydney after joining last month as a replacement for Trinidad's Dwight Yorke.

Dhorasoo: Midfielder Vikash Dhorasoo, who was sacked by Paris St Germain last week, is free to move to another club, the French Professional Football League (LFP) said yesterday. Dhorasoo was sacked for alleged insubordination and disobedience after querying the tactics of coach Guy Lacombe and calling him a liar in an interview last month. The player plans to sue PSG in a labour tribunal over the sacking.
