Costly flare: Spain's government-run Anti-violence Commission has recommended the Spanish Football Federation be fined 3,000 euros for deficient security measures at the recent friendly against Argentina. The Commission said the fine was issued because the federation failed to prevent a fan entering the stadium in Murcia with a flare and then lighting it at the start of the match which Spain won 2-1.

Aragones: Luis Aragones has extended his contract as Spain coach for another two years. Aragones, whose original contract expired after the World Cup, has been under intense pressure to resign following Spain's consecutive defeats in qualification for Euro 2008.

Kaka: Kaka said Milan's 1-0 win away to Anderlecht in the Champions League on Tuesday will prove the turning point in what has been a frustrating season so far. Before the Anderlecht match, Milan had drawn their previous four matches and only scored one goal. "It was so important to win, and away, after four draws. This will help us now in the Champions League and the Italian championship," Kaka, the match-winner, said.

Kenya suspension: FIFA proposed suspending Kenya from international competitions yesterday and may discipline its officials over what it called Kenya's failure to respect agreements and recurrent problems in its football association. The east African nation's most popular sport is in chaos with two rival organisations running parallel Premier Leagues.

Asian Cup: Singaporean soccer chiefs were tight-lipped yesterday about whether the city-state would be willing to co-host next year's Asian Cup finals if Thailand failed to meet a 90-day deadline to upgrade its facilities. John Koh, general secretary of the Football Association of Singapore, said he was not willing to comment as no approach had been made by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to discuss replacing the Kingdom, one of the tournament hosts.
