Bundesliga: Substitute Paolo Guerrero struck twice to give Hamburg a 2-1 victory at Bayer Leverkusen yesterday, the first win of the season for Thomas Doll's side. A mix-up between goalkeeper Sascha Kirschstein and defender Thimothee Atouba handed Andriy Voronin an easy chance to put Leverkusen ahead after 40 minutes. The home side had chances to increase their lead before Hamburg hit back. Nuremberg missed the chance to move into the top three when they were held to a 2-2 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt in yesterday's other game. The point took Nuremberg up to fifth with 12 points.

World Cup boost: This year's World Cup boosted Germany's gross domestic product by 0.3 per cent and created 50,000 new jobs, the head of Germany's chamber of industry and commerce said. Martin Wansleben told the Bild am Sonntag newspaper that the month-long tournament had stimulated the economy, which was expected to grow this year by 2.3 per cent, its strongest rate since 2000.

Lucio: Bayern Munich defender Lucio will be out for around three weeks because of an ankle problem. Lucio suffered the injury in Saturday's 3-1 defeat away to Werder Bremen. Werder's clinching third goal in that game was an own-goal from the unfortunate Brazilian centre-back. Bayern are short of cover in the centre of defence after Frenchman Valerien Ismael was ruled out for six months with a broken shin bone back in August.

Boavista: Zeljko Petrovic resigned yesterday after only two months as coach of Boavista. The 40-year-old former Yugoslav international took over from Jesualdo Ferreira when he quit to take over champions Porto in August. Former coach Jaime Pacheco, who led Boavista to their only league title in 2001, and Antonio Sousa, who left Rio Ave last season, are the early favourites to replace Petrovic.

Ligue 1: Auxerre vs Paris SG 0-0; Marseille vs Lyon 1-4.
