Dyer: West Ham midfielder Kieron Dyer has rejoined former club Ipswich Town on loan for a month. Dyer has made just 13 appearances for the Hammers this season thanks to his struggle to find fitness and form and will spend the next month at Portman Road, where he began his career.

Gerrard: Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will be sidelined for up to four weeks after undergoing successful surgery on a groin problem. Gerrard was not part of the Reds squad which travelled to Portugal for Thursday night’s Europa League last 16 clash with Braga and it has now been revealed he is set for an extended spell on the sidelines.

Barzagli: Andrea Barzagli, 29, added to Juve’s injury woes this week after picking up a knock in training. The defender, who joined Juventus from Wolfsburg in January, has tweaked his left thigh muscle. He is doubtful for today’s match against Cesena.

Millwall: Millwall will not be charged by the FA in the wake of the crowd trouble which marred their clash with Middlesbrough last month. The game, which Boro won 3-2, had to be stopped shortly after Scott McDonald had put the visitors 2-1 ahead when goalkeeper Jason Steele and an assistant referee were targeted with missiles thrown by the home fans.

Fae: Nice midfielder Emerse Fae, 27, has been ruled out for the season due to phlebitis – a condition associated with the formation of blood clots. The Ivory Coast international, who has scored three goals in 24 Ligue 1 games this season, will be forced to spend several months recovering from the condition.

Boussoufa: Russian Premier League side Anzhi Makhachkala have signed Moroccan international midfielder Moubarak Boussoufa from Anderlecht on a three-year contract. Reports said that the club from the capital of the Russian republic of Dagestan payed Anderlecht €12 million for the 26-year-old Boussoufa, who scored 60 goals in 200 appearances for the Belgian side.

Tennis: Roger Federer will warm up for this year’s Wimbledon by playing at Germany’s Halle ATP tournament from June 7 until June 12. The 29-year-old Swiss star, who has won a record 16 Grand Slam titles including six Wimbledon crowns, traditionally plays at Halle’s event to prepare for the fortnight-long championships. Federer has won the Halle tournament five times and Australian Lleyton Hewett has also said he will play the grass-court tournament.

Ice Hockey: Montreal police said they were probing a check by Boston’s Zdeno Chara in a National Hockey League game that left Montreal’s Max Pacioretty with a broken vertebra and concussion. Criminal charges could be brought against Chara, a 2.05-metre Slovakian defenceman, who slammed Pacioretty into a glass partition between the team benches late in the second period of the Canadiens’ 4-1 victory Tuesday.

Basket, NBA: Dirk Nowitzki scored 23 points and Shawn Marion added 22 as Dallas Mavericks beat New York 127-109, snapping the Knicks’ three-game NBA win streak. Jason Terry added 21 points for the Mavericks, who improved to 47-18, second in the Western Conference and 5.5 games behind league leaders San Antonio.

Horse Racing: Zenyatta, the 2010 Horse of the Year, is in foal after being mated with 2006 Preakness winner Bernardini. The announcement comes only three days after Rachel Alexandra, the 2009 Horse of the Year, was revealed to be in foal and also expecting next February after being mated two weeks ago with 2007 and 2008 Horse of the Year Curlin. The pregnancies set the stage for a sensational Triple Crown series rivalry in 2015, when top three-year-old horses race for glory at the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes.
