Wolfsburg: Wolfsburg have signed attacking midfielders Koo Ja-Cheoul of South Korea and Venezuelan Yohandry Orozco in a bid to make up for Edin Dzeko’s departure to Manchester City. The 21-year-old Koo with five in six matches, signed a three-and-a-half year deal from Jeju United, while Orozco, 19, signed through until 2015 from Zulia FC.

Hibs: Hibs signed Czech goalkeeper Jakub Divis from Slovakian club Tatran Presov on loan until the end of season on Sunday. The 24-year-old will be the third Czech player in the Scottish top flight, joining midfielder Rudolf Skacel at Hearts and Hamilton goalkeeper Tomas Cerny.

Southgate: Former England and Aston Villa defender Gareth Southgate has been confirmed as the English FA’s new head of elite development. Southgate will work with Sir Trevor Brooking on the FA’s youth development review, with the objective of bringing through better players and coaches to improve the England national team.

Cleveland edged closer to the NBA’s all-time one-season record losing streak is 23 games, set by the 1995-96 Vancouver Grizzlies and matched two seasons later by the Denver Nuggets.

Boxing: Akifumi Shimoda produced an array of counter-hooks for a unanimous decision victory to wrest the WBAsuper bantamweight title from Lee Retsuri yesterday. Three judges counted it 115-111, 118-109, 118-109 all in favour of the challenger.

2014 Winter Olympics: The head of the Russian state company building arenas for the 2014 Winter Olympics has resigned. At the helm of Olympstroi since 2009, Taimuraz Bolloyev submitted a letter of resignation blaming poor health. If his resignation is accepted, he will become the third company head to leave the post.

Tennis: Australian Open winner Kim Clijsters has risen to second place in the world rankings and within close range of Caroline Wozniacki who holds on to the top spot despite once again failing to win a Grand Slam title. China’s Li Na, who lost in Saturday’s final in Melbourne, moves up to a career-best seventh place with Francesca Schiavone of Italy up to fourth behind Vera Zvonareva. Serena Williams, who has not played since winning the Wimbledon title last year, falls out of the top 10.
