Crowd Violence: UEFA has appealed against its disciplinary body's decision to fine Feyenoord last week for crowd violence during the UEFA Cup match at Nancy on Nov. 30, the Rotterdam-based club said on their website. Feyenoord received a 125,000 euro ($165,000) fine and were told they would have to play two home matches behind closed doors if a further offence was committed in the next three years.

Colombia: Colombia appointed Jorge Luis Pinto as coach yesterday to end months of speculation. The job had been linked with several foreigners, including Germany's Ulie Stielike, Argentine Marcelo Bielsa and Brazilian Paulo Autuori. Pinto, who coached Costa Rica at the 2004 Copa America, will attempt to take Colombia to the World Cup for the first time since 1998.

Bribery probe: Portugal's new Attorney General has appointed his assistant to look into reports that referees were offered bribes to influence several Premier League matches. "The assistant to the Attorney General, Maria Jose Morgado, was nominated today to manage all the cases regarding Apito Dourado," the office of the Attorney General said yesterday. An investigation into alleged bribery, branded "Apito Dourado", began in 2003. The Attorney General's decision follows the publication of a book by an ex-girlfriend of the president of Premier League leaders Porto, which alleged the team had often benefited from bribes paid to referees.

Dubai Cup: Bayern Munich will join Benfica, Santos and Lazio in the four-team Dubai Cup during their January training camp, the German club said. Prize money of $2 million will be up for grabs in the invitation tournament from Jan 8-10, the club added.

Snooker: Ronnie O'Sullivan conceded his match against Stephen Hendry at 4-1 behind in the UK Championship yesterday. Five-times champion Hendry is credited with a 9-1 win and goes through to the semi-finals to play Graeme Dott who beat Steve Davis 9-6. "It was bizarre," said Hendry. " I asked him if there was anything wrong and he said no." O'Sullivan later apologised to his fans for his decision to concede the match. Other results: Higgins bt Perry 9-3.
