Vidmar: Former Socceroos international Aurelio Vidmar will coach the Australian team at the 2012 London Olympics. The Adelaide United coach will also act as assistant to the incoming national team manager who is still to be appointed. Vidmar who played 44 internationals for Australia from 1991 to 2001, will replace Graham Arnold.

Hickersberger: Former Austrian coach Josef Hickersberger will take over at Bahrain on July 1. He succeeds Czech Milan Macala who failed to lead the Gulf kingdom to the World Cup finals after they were eliminated in the play-offs by New Zealand.

Porto: Portuguese coach Andre Villas Boas, considered as a disciple of Jose Mourinho, has signed a two-year contract with FC Porto. Villas Boas, 32, who started his coaching career last season at Academica Coimbra, becomes the youngest ever coach of the Portuguese club. He led Academica Coimbra to 11th in the league.

Craddock: Wolves defender Jody Craddock has committed himself to the club for another year by signing a new contract. The 34-year-old club captain has agreed a 12-month deal which will keep him at Molineux until the end of next season.

Hannover: Hannover have confirmed two new signings with goalkeeper Markus Miller joining from Karlsruhe and defender Emanuel Pogatetz arriving from Middlesbrough. Miller will put the pressure on rookie goalkeeper Florian Fromlowitz, who was thrust in at the deep end last November following the death of Robert Enke.

Auto Racing: IndyCar officials announced a series of engine changes starting in 2012 that are aimed at stimulating speed and competition among teams and powerplant manufacturers. Ethanol-fuelled engines are currently eight-cylinder Honda products with 600 horsepower but the new guidelines allow up to six cylinders and turbocharging with between 550 and 700 horsepower in a bid to lure multiple engine-makers.

Tennis: US ski star Bode Miller, 32, is trading his poles and slopes for a racket and Hawaiian sun in a bid to qualify for the US Open tennis championship. Miller has entered in the US Open sectional qualifying tournament that starts today. Tennis is not new to Miller, a 1996 Maine state singles champion at Carrabassett Valley Academy. His family owns a tennis camp in New Hampshire.

Rugby World Cup: Fans have applied for more than 600,000 tickets for next year's Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. The applications were for the first phase of ticket sales, which comprise packages of tickets for all the pool matches at a single venue or all the pool matches played by a single team. There were 125,000 applications for pool packs, along with 40,000 applications for quarter-final packages and the play-off for third place. A total of 20 teams will take part in the World Cup which kicks off in September next year.

Golf: Tiger Woods has no plans to appoint a new coach as he starts his title defence at the Memorial Tournament in Ohio. Woods has played just three tournaments this year. A bleak run was followed by Hank Haney announcing he was resigning as the world no.1's coach after six years. "I've been using video and working on it that way, that's the great thing about technology," Woods said. "I have no plans for a new coach."
