Emerton: Brett Emerton has returned to full training two weeks ahead of Australia's opening World Cup match against Germany. A calf injury has limited Emerton's participation in the pre-tournament camps in Melbourne and Johannes-burg, but the Blackburn midfielder was back in action yesterday. The 31-year-old may not be risked in today's friendly against Denmark.

Adriano: Controversial Brazilian striker Adriano was set to be interviewed by police last night in connection with alleged links to a drug-dealing gang that has been accused of murdering police officers. The news could be a blow to Roma, for whom the Flamengo striker will sign this month.

Noise Levels: Football fans in Germany have been given a World Cup boost after the government announced its decision to relax laws concerning noise levels in public. German law currently bans excessive noise levels outdoors after 22.00, however the government said this would be relaxed from June 1 to July 31 for the public to benefit fully from the World Cup.

Granqvist: FC Groningen defender Andreas Granqvist will consider a move to Celtic if the Parkhead club follow up their interest in him. The Sweden international revealed the Parkhead club have watched him but insists they could face competition for his signature, reportedly from Roy Hodgson's Fulham among others. "Celtic currently show the most interest and I am certainly interested," Granqvist said.

Ascoli: Elio Gustinetti, formerly of Grosseto, will be Ascoli's new coach for next season. The final day from the Serie B season was played on Sunday with Bepi Pillon making his farewell for mid-table Ascoli with a 2-1 away win at Crotone. Gustinetti was sacked by Grosseto after they started to slide away from the promotion play-off places.

Athletics: Defending champion Mo Farah set a British road record to win the Bupa London 10,000m, yesterday. Farah clocked 27 minutes and 44 seconds in the 10-kilometre race as he outsprinted world record holder Micah Kogo to clinch victory by five seconds from the Kenyan. In the women's race, Kenya's Mary Keitany raced to victory in a new course record and lifetime best of 31:05.

Rugby: Toulouse no.8 Finau Maka has strongly denied a charge of 'modern slavery' levelled by a Tunisian national who lodged at his home in Toulouse for over three years. The Tongan backrower was placed in police custody for 24 hours last week in connection with the case.

Boxing: Miguel Acosta of Venezuela is the new WBA lightweight champion after knocking out title holder Paulus Moses of Namibia in the sixth round. The South American extended his impressive record to 27 wins and two draws from 32 bouts after dominating an opponent backed by a vociferous crowd in a central Windhoek stadium.

Golf: Former Masters champion Zach Johnson fired a six-under 64 on Sunday to come from behind and win the 6.2 million dollar PGA Colonial by three shots. American Johnson finished at 21-under-par 259 to set a tournament record and finish ahead of third-round leader Brian Davis in a round that included two late play suspensions less than an hour apart.

Cricket: England won the first Test against Bangladesh by eight wickets on the fifth and final day at Lord's yesterday to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. England, set 160 to win after Bangladesh were bowled out for 382 following-on, finished on 163 for two. Jonathan Trott was 36 not out and Kevin Pietersen 10 not out. The second Test starts at Old Trafford on Friday.
