Juventus: Juventus centre back Giorgio Chiellini will miss today's crunch Champions League match against Bayern Munich and goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is doubtful. Chiellini, who will be replaced by Nicola Legrottaglie alongside Fabio Cannavaro, will be out for around 20 days after suffering a calf injury in Saturday's 2-1 win over Inter. Juve also said that Buffon was a doubt after damaging knee cartilage.

Fabiano: Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano will be out for up to three weeks after picking up an ankle injury in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Real Valladolid. The Brazil international will miss the Andalusians' Champions League match at home to Rangers tomorrow and this weekend's league trip to Sporting Gijon.

Puel: Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has backed coach Claude Puel after the seven-times champions squandered a 3-1 lead to lose 4-3 at Lille at the weekend. "I have always said that Claude Puel would stay until the end of his four-year contract and that still stands," Aulas said yesterday. "He is deeply affected be-cause he always gives his very best."

Reyes: Atletico Madrid winger Jose Antonio Reyes has regained the form that makes him one of the best players in Europe, coach Quique Sanchez Flores said yesterday. "He knows the level of expectation we have for him and I believe he is in a patch of form where he cannot do anything but fight hard and demonstrate his quality," Sanchez Flores said.

Swimming: Australia's head swimming coach Alan Thompson has taken leave pending an investigation into an allegation of "inappropriate behaviour", officials said yesterday. Swimming Australia said an anonymous and unsubstantiated claim against Thompson had been brought to its attention by the media.

Athletics: Double world youth champion Jodie Williams is among more than 40 young athletes who will be supported by the UK Athletics Futures Programme. A total of 42 athletes and their coaches will receive financial support directly from UKA and other services to aid their development. Williams won a sprint double in the World Youth Championships in Italy in July.

Cricket: Pakistan's cricket chief yesterday proposed a limited over series against rivals India at neutral venues to overcome huge financial losses due to security problems in the country. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt said annual losses of 71 per cent were incurred on television rights and other areas as teams refused to tour the country over security fears amid a Taliban insurgency.
