Chevanton: Sevilla have agreed to loan Uruguayan striker Ernesto Chevanton to Atalanta from January to June next year. The 29-year-old has found his chances limited with Luis Fabiano, Frederic Kanoute and Alvaro Negredo the preferred forwards under coach Manolo Jimenez.

Cancelled: A Ligue 1 game between Marseille and Sochaux has been postponed to help Marseille prepare for their decisive game against Real Madrid. Marseille will go through to the knockout phase of the Champions League if they beat Real Madrid 3-0 or by a four-goal margin on December 8.

Juve doctors: Juventus doctors Bartolomeo Goitre and Luca Stefanini should face three-month bans for their mishandling of Fabio Cannavaro's treatment for a wasp sting, Italy's anti-doping chief said. Cannavaro had previously been cleared of wrongdoing after failing a drugs test in August, two days after receiving an emergency cortisone injection for the sting. However, Juve's doctors have been charged because of a mix-up over documentation.

Abidal: Barcelona full-back Eric Abidal has signed a one-year contract extension to keep him at the Nou Camp until summer 2012. The 30-year-old was already committed to the Spanish champions until 2011 but has now prolonged that deal on improved terms.

Basketball: Louis Borg Cup preliminary round - (men) Athleta vs Siġġiewi 59-62; (women) Luxol vs St Andrews 65-45.

Rugby Union: Leicester head coach Richard Cockerill has received a four-week suspension for abusing match officials, the RFU (Rugby Football Union) said. The two incidents happened during an Anglo-Welsh Cup match against Newport Gwent Dragons on Nov. 14, and Cockerill is now banned from any involvement with English champions Leicester or match officials on game days until Dec. 23. He was also fined £2,000. Cockerill led Leicester to the Heineken Cup final against Leinster in May which they lost 19-16.

Olympics: India's hopes of hosting an Olympics in the near future was dealt a blow by the country's sports minister Manohar Singh Gill, who said the country was far too poor to even consider the idea. India will stage the Commonwealth Games next year and the country's Olympic association (IOA) chief Suresh Kalmadi had said India would bid for the 2020 Summer Games after the successful delivery of the New Delhi event. "I am not sure if India should be thinking of the Olympics. Look at the poverty here," Gill said.

Cycling: Australian sprinter Robbie McEwen is planning to make his comeback at the Tour Down Under in January. A three-time winner of the Tour de France's sprinters' jersey, McEwen was sidelined for most of 2009 after crashing heavily in May. The 37-year-old had to abort a comeback in July to undergo more surgery but told race officials he wants to resume racing at the Tour Down Under from January 17-24. Lance Armstrong and road race world champion Cadel Evans will also be competing in the race.

Swimming: Australia's Leisel Jones believes the year she took away from competition has given the multi-medal winner added motivation to compete at the 2012 Olympics. Three-time Olympian Jones had considered retiring after the 2008 Games but her decision to take a sabbatical has only rekindled her interest in going to London. "No one (swimmer) on the Australian team has ever done four Olympics," she said. "It would be a pretty big thing if I chose to continue and physically there is no reason why I can't go on."
