Moldova: Former Soviet striker Igor Dobrovolsky has quit as coach of Moldova after a disappointing 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign. Moldova finished bottom of European Group Two with no wins and three draws from their 10 qualifiers.

Eto'o: Inter striker Samuel Eto'o is doubtful for the joint-leaders' trip to Genoa tonight with a foot injury. "I still feel pain in my right foot, I hope I can recover in time," the Cameroon international said. Coach Jose Mourinho may be forced to play Mario Balotelli up front alone with Diego Milito out with a hamstring problem.

Gudjohnsen: Monaco striker Eidur Gudjohnsen will be out of action for three weeks after picking up a shoulder injury, the club said. The former Barcelona forward, who will miss tomorrow's game against RC Lens, has yet to score this season with the side from the principality.

Napoli: New Napoli coach Walter Mazzarri looks set to be without forward Ezequiel Lavezzi for tomorrow's home game against Bologna with media reports saying the Argentine has lost his passport and has been unable to return from international duty.

Henry: Barcelona striker Thierry Henry is set to be sidelined for the next 10 days due to a hamstring injury. Henry limped out of France's World Cup qualifier against Austria shortly after half-time.

Athletics: South Korea is offering huge cash rewards as an incentive for the nation to win its first world championships medal when Daegu hosts the next edition of the event in 2011. The Korea Association of Athletics Federations and the ministry of culture, sports and tourism have offered one billion won ($860,000) to a gold medallist, with half the sum going to the coach. A silver medal would fetch 500 million won and bronze would be worth 250 million won to the athlete.

Basket, NBA: The Cleveland Cavaliers are waiting to get back swine flu test results on superstar LeBron James who returned to practise after taking two days off because of a virus. James is one of a half-dozen Cavalier players who are suffering from flu-like symptoms.

Gymnastics: Teenager Daniel Keatings overcame a sleepless night and some early nerves to become the first Briton to win an all-around medal at a World Championships when he claimed silver on Thursday. He finished with a total of 88.925 points, 2.575 behind Japanese champion Kohei Uchimura, who was a class apart from the rest of the field. Russia's Yuri Ryazanov grabbed third.

Rugby Union: England fly-half Jonny Wilkinson kicked 16 points and survived a worrying late hit to lead Toulon to a 31-23 European Challenge Cup win over Saracens on Thursday. In the process, he passed the 100-point mark for his new French employers as well as further pushing his case for a starting place in the England line-up for the forthcoming autumn Tests.

Ice hockey: Nicklas Lidstrom became the first European defenceman and only the eighth defenceman overall to reach 1,000 points in the National Hockey League. "It feels great," said Lidstrom, who assisted on two goals in Detroit's 5-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings. The Swedish star has 229 goals and 771 assists in 1,336 career games.
