Stoke: Premier League club Stoke City completed the signing of Middlesbrough forward Tuncay Sanli for five million pounds. Turkey captain Tuncay joins former Middlesbrough team-mate Robert Huth at the Britannia Stadium after the Germany defender sealed his switch to Stoke from the Championship club on Thursday.

Elia call-up: Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk dropped winger Ryan Babel in favour of the uncapped Eljero Elia in his squad for the friendly against Japan on Sept. 5 and the 2010 World Cup qualifier away to Scotland four days later. Van Marwijk added Celtic defender Glenn Loovens to his squad for the first time, while defender Giovanni van Bronckhorst returns after missing the England friendly earlier this month through injury.

Velodrome: Marseille return to their Velodrome stadium when they host leaders Bordeaux for their second home game of the season tomorrow. The stadium was unavailable for their first home match due to an inquiry into the collapse of a stage constructed for a planned Madonna concert last month.

Atletico Madrid: Atletico Madrid are hoping to beat at least two English Premier League clubs to the signature of Rennes defender Rod Fanni. Frenchman Fanni, 27, has reportedly been a target of other European clubs, including West Ham and Everton. The Madrid club hopes to boost its squad before the end of the close season transfer window on Monday.

Adebayor: Monaco midfielder Serge Gakpe is the latest former French U-21 player seeking to take advantage of a change in FIFA regulations to relaunch his international career. Gakpe said he had been persuaded by Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor to play for Togo next month in a World Cup qualifier against Morocco. The 22-year-old said he had chosen Togo because they were a good team with a chance to qualify for next year's World Cup.

Morimoto: Catania striker Takayuki Morimoto has been called up for the first time for his country for friendlies against the Netherlands and Ghana, the Japan FA said. Morimoto, who moved to the Italian side in 2006 after three seasons with J-League side Tokyo Verdy, has scored nine goals in 42 Serie A games. He also netted in the season-opener last weekend against Sampdoria.
