Belgrade violence: Thirteen people were injured and 27 arrested in clashes between fans and police after Saturday's Serbian derby between Red Star Belgrade and city rivals Partizan, police said. Four of the injured were riot police who came in to quell the violence while charges will be pressed against five of the offenders, one of whom assaulted a police officer, they said in a media statement. Rival fans hurled stones at each other and at police after Partizan won 4-2 to close the gap on champions and league leaders Red Star to nine points.

Madrid incidents: Police used rubber bullets and baton charges to disperse fans before Saturday night's derby between Atletico and Real Madrid, Spanish media reported. El Pais said the trouble started when a group of Atletico's ultra fans threw bottles and other objects at the police who responded by trying to disperse the crowd. The fans reacted by destroying cars belonging to the local media that had been parked alongside the stadium. In a separate incident around a dozen Atletico fans fell some two metres on to the ground at one end of the stadium when a barrier collapsed while they were celebrating the opening goal in the 1-1 draw. No one was hurt.

Ribery: Olympique Marseille midfielder Franck Ribery will be out of action for at least two weeks with a foot injury, the Ligue 1 club said yesterday. France midfielder Ribery, who was replaced midway through the first half of his side's 3-0 defeat by Toulouse on Saturday, sustained a fracture in his right foot. Ribery will miss Olympique Marseille's French Cup quarter-final against third division Vannes tomorrow, as well as league matches against RC Lens and leaders Olympique Lyon.

Fontana: Palermo goalkeeper Alberto Fontana has been diagnosed with whiplash after an awkward collision with Atalanta's Simone Loria. The two players barged into each other during Saturday's 1-1 Serie A draw when they went for a free-kick inside the box. Loria was stretchered off after being knocked unconscious but he was later able to walk back to the locker room. Fontana at first stayed on the pitch after treatment but minutes later, he collapsed to the ground clutching his head before being replaced.

Boca Juniors: Midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme set up two goals and Martin Palermo scored from near the halfway line as Boca Juniors came back to beat Independiente 3-1 away in a pulsating Argentine championship match. The defeat left Independiente with one point from three games in the Clausura championship, heaping the pressure on coach Jorge Burruchaga. Boca, who had midfielder Ever Amaga sent off in the 58th minute for a second bookable offence, have seven points.
