Jordan: Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has added his former Portsmouth assistant Joe Jordan to his coaching staff, the Premier League club announced. Jordan, 51, left Portsmouth last Friday and will join the first-team coaching staff at White Hart Lane.

Toni: Bayern Munich's Italian striker Luca Toni has recovered from a rib injury and will play in today's Bundesliga game at Schalke 04, coach Juergen Klinsmann said. "Toni is ready to play and, hopefully, is also hungry for goals," Klinsmann said. Toni has missed Bayern's last three Bundesliga games.

Peru: Peru was stripped of the right to host next year's South American under-20 championship because of a long-running dispute between the government and the country's football federation. The tournament will now take place in Venezuela, which hosted last year's senior Copa America. It has been reported that the Peruvian government had refused to support the hosting of the tournament because of its row with the football federation (FPF).

Henry: Thierry Henry has been voted France's favourite athlete, according to a poll released by French daily L'Equipe yesterday. France's all-time top scorer came first with 42 percent of a sample of 1,101 French people. Fellow soccer player Franck Ribery was second on 38.7 percent and last year's winner, swimmer Laure Manaudou, third on 34.3 percent.

Torres: Manchester United's Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo is deservedly the clear favourite to win the Ballon d'Or this year, Liverpool and Spain striker Fernando Torres has said. "It isn't very often there is someone who has done as much to earn it as Cristiano Ronaldo did last season," Torres said. "He won the hardest league in the world, the Champions League, scored in the final and was the top scorer in the league and in Europe."

Athletics: Former world 400 metres record-holder and twice Olympic medallist Larry James has died of cancer. American James, a double medallist at the 1968 Games in Mexico City, died on Thursday in Smithville, New Jersey on his 61st birthday. Nicknamed 'The Mighty Burner', James set a world record of 44.1 seconds for the 400 while finishing second behind Lee Evans at the 1968 Olympic trials in Echo Summit, California. Evans won the race in 44.0 but his time was disallowed by the IAAF because he wore illegal brush spike shoes.

Basket, NBA: San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker suffered a sprained ankle on Friday during his team's 99-83 loss to the Miami Heat. Parker landed on a defender's foot during the first quarter and did not return. The extent of the injury has yet to be determined but an ESPN reporter said, during the game's telecast, the team confirmed X-rays had proved negative.

Cricket: Former New Zealand test spinner Hedley Howarth has died aged 64. A reliable orthodox left-arm bowler, Howarth played 30 tests for New Zealand between 1969 and 1977, capturing 86 wickets at an average of 36.95. "Hedley has a significant place in our international cricket history," New Zealand Cricket said. "His five-wicket bag against India at Nagpur in 1969 was a match winner that helped give New Zealand its first ever test win on the sub-continent."

Boxing: The World Boxing Council (WBC) is set to introduce tougher medical tests for fighters aged 40 and over. WBC's intention is not to stop boxers in that age bracket from fighting but to ensure they were fit enough to continue safely. The Board has recommended a range of 'Forty and plus' focus tests be introduced by January, including a neuro-psychological one to gauge reaction times, two types of brain imaging plus cardiovascular tests to monitor heart rate and blood flow.
