Zenit St Petersburg: Russian champions Zenit St Petersburg have signed Portugal international Danni from fellow Russian premier league side Dynamo Moscow, Zenit said. Big spenders Zenit have paid a reported 30 million euros for the talented midfielder, who has been one of the top players in the Russian premier league since joining Dynamo three years ago. Danni, 25, was born in Venezuela before his family moved to Portugal.

Serbia: Serbia's new coach Radomir Antic named uncapped left-back Ivan Obradovic and midfielder Nenad Milijas in his squad yesterday for the opening 2010 World Cup Group Seven qualifiers next month. "We need a blend of youth and experience and some fresh blood to make sure the players compete for a place in the starting lineup," Antic told a news conference after naming his 23-man squad.

Palermo: Boca Juniors' record goalscorer Martin Palermo is out for up to eight months after damaging ligaments in his right knee, team officials said. Palermo was due to have an operation and would be out for anywhere "between five and eight months", club doctor Juan Martin Veiga told La Nacion newspaper. The 34-year-old former Argentina striker landed badly on his knee during Sunday's 2-1 home win over Lanus in the Apertura championship.

Mutu: Fiorentina star Adrian Mutu will definitely miss the second leg of the Champions League qualifier against Slavia Prague, the Italian club confirmed yesterday.The Romania striker dislocated an elbow in training while on international duty on August 19 and could also sit out Sunday's Serie A opener against former club Juventus.

Everton: Everton have agreed to sign Denmark defender Lars Christian Jacobsen on a free transfer from Nuremberg, who were relegated from the Bundesliga in May. The 28-year-old is expected to sign a one-year deal subject to a medical today, the English Premier League club said on their website (www.evertonfc.com).
