Adebayor: Striker Emmanuel Adebayor has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal, the Premier League club said yesterday. Adebayor, 24, was linked with some of Europe's top clubs during the close season but ended the speculation earlier this month by declaring his "heart is with Arsenal."

Romania: Romania coach Victor Piturca has included uncapped Otelul Galati midfielder Gabriel Paraschiv in his squad for tomorrow's friendly against Latvia in Bucharest. Paraschiv, 31, has scored seven goals this season.

Holland: Khalid Boulahrouz and Orlando Engelaar have pulled out of the Dutch squad for tomorrow's friendly against Russia to be played in Moscow because of injuries.

Mutu: Romania striker Adrian Mutu described as inhumane and unfair FIFA's decision to order him to pay record damages for taking cocaine while playing for Premier League Chelsea in 2004. Mutu is appealing against the ruling by FIFA's Dispute Resolution Chamber that he should pay €17.17 million in financial compensation to the London club. "FIFA's decision was unfair and inhumane. I don't consider that I did something so serious that I have to pay such a huge sum," Mutu told reporters yesterday.

Gravesen: Celtic have released midfielder Thomas Gravesen from his contract. Gravesen, 32, joined Celtic from Real Madrid in 2006 but spent last season on loan at Everton after failing to impress the Glasgow club's manager, Gordon Strachan.

Penev: Former Bulgaria striker Luboslav Penev, who formed a impressive international partnership with Hristo Stoichkov and Emil Kostadinov in the 1980s and 90s, has become assistant coach of the national team, the Bulgarian Football Union said yesterday. He joins the staff under coach Plamen Markov.
